The Hashimoto Prize

New Jersey Institute of Technology is proud to announce the co-recipients of the Hashimoto Prize for this year: Ranyang Zhou in Computer Engineering and Changshi Zhou in Environmental Engineering. Both scholars have earned the degree of Doctor of Philosophy through distinguished scholarship and research, exemplifying excellence in their respective fields.
Over a distinguished lifetime, Kazuo Hashimoto garnered more than 1,000 patents and applications related to his invention of the telephone answering machine and other technical devices in electronics and telecommunications. One hundred of these were awarded in the United States alone. He was a recipient of Japan’s Medal of Honor, the Yellow Ribbon, and was one of the select individuals in his country esteemed as a Living National Treasure.
New Jersey Institute of Technology, in recognition of his extraordinary body of creative work and his encouragement of invention, awarded him the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa, at these ceremonies in 1994.
In May of 1995, the Hashimoto Endowment was established at NJIT through the generosity and vision of Dr. Hashimoto who found this university to provide an environment in which applied research and scholarship flourish.
A key element of the endowment’s purpose is the annual award of the Hashimoto Prize to a doctoral candidate in electrical or computer engineering who has demonstrated high achievement and promise in the field.

New Jersey Institute of Technology is proud to announce the recipient of the Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Awardee is Meiqi Wang, an outstanding scholar who has earned the degree of Doctor of Philosophy through distinguished scholarship and research in applied physics.
The Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award is bestowed annually upon a doctoral candidate, acknowledging their exceptional scholarly achievements and groundbreaking research, regardless of academic discipline. This distinguished honor pays tribute to the doctoral candidate whose dissertation exemplifies unparalleled originality and innovation, methodological rigor, and substantial contributions to the advancement of knowledge within their respective field of study. Recipients must have graduated in August, December or May of the year corresponding to the current commencement ceremony. The Graduate Studies Office seeks nominations from all academic colleges. A selection committee of esteemed faculty members meticulously assesses the nominees’ dissertations, in tandem with advisor and college recommendations, and other relevant supporting documentation.
